Early access

Early access is a pre-release stage in which a product is opened to a limited group — often the first members of a pre-launch waitlist — before general availability, giving selected users a head start in exchange for feedback, word of mouth, or a paid commitment.

How it works

Selected signups get in before everyone else — sometimes as a reward for referrals, sometimes by purchase or invite. They use a product that may still be rough, and their feedback shapes the public release. Access is usually granted in waitlist order, at a referral milestone, or to anyone who upgrades.

Why it matters

Early access is both an incentive and a filter. As an incentive it gives waitlist members a concrete reason to refer and climb the queue; as a filter it surfaces your most committed users first. It overlaps with a beta launch but emphasizes privileged access over structured testing.

Frequently asked questions

Is early access the same as a beta?
They overlap but emphasize different things. A beta centers on testing a near-finished product for bugs and feedback; early access centers on the privilege of getting in before the public, often as a reward or paid perk. The same release can be both.
How do you give waitlist members early access?
Common methods are inviting people in waitlist order, unlocking access at a referral milestone, or opening it to anyone who upgrades. Tying early access to referrals turns it into a growth lever as well as a reward.
