Single opt-in

Single opt-in is a signup flow in which users are added to the list immediately on form submission with no email confirmation step; it maximizes signup completion rate but increases junk, fake-email, and deliverability risk.

How it works

The form submission is the only step — the address is added to the list right away and the person sees the success page immediately. There is no confirmation email to open, so nobody drops off between submitting and confirming.

Why it matters

Single opt-in captures the most signups, which is why many pre-launch pages use it. The tradeoff is list quality: without a confirmation step, fake, mistyped, and disposable addresses get in, which can hurt email deliverability when you email the list later. Double opt-in is the stricter alternative.

Frequently asked questions

Does single opt-in hurt deliverability?
It can. Without a confirmation step, fake, mistyped, and disposable addresses enter the list and bounce when you send, which lowers your sender reputation and inbox placement over time. Pairing single opt-in with real-time email validation reduces the risk.
When is single opt-in safe to use?
It is reasonable early on when you are mainly gauging demand and not yet emailing the list, or when you have strong validation (format checks, disposable-domain blocking, bot filtering) in front of the form to keep junk out.
